Green Heart Partnership

The Arts and Environment Initiative in Hertfordshire

Green Heart Partnership (GHP) is the Arts Generate programme for Hertfordshire, focused on achieving growth and capacity for the arts and environment sectors in the county.

Aims and objectives

  • Improving the quality of life for our communities.
  • Bringing tangible benefits to our artists and arts organisations.
  • Working towards the Government’s vision for an urban and rural renaissance.
  • Promoting environmental sustainability.
  • Contributing towards high quality vibrant public spaces.
  • Creating a sense of place.

Project summary

Green Heart Partnership seeks to raise the profile and the value of the arts in Hertfordshire either through adding creativity to processes or by way of an end product.

Central to the GHP approach is supporting cross-departmental teams to provide creative and practical solutions to existing needs within local authorities. GHP facilitates the relationship between local government and creative practitioners to bring about effective art-led regeneration.

GHP is a forward-thinking initiative supporting individuals and teams who challenge existing practice to work towards a joined-up approach that equally values the process and the end product.

GHP considers that ‘art’ an integral part of how we address our public realm, and not merely an isolated element of the physical environment. By working to develop new models of creative cross-departmental working practice this initiative is pairing the arts with the environment and capital development departments to explore how creative-led collaborations can assist in creating more engaging, appealing and environmentally sustainable communities.

Start date: Wednesday 1 September 2004
